September 7-8, 2026
September 7 was Labor Day and the pleasure boats were non stop on Lake Macatawa. We headed into the channel and through the large first part of the lake to Marigold Lodge. There is a nice spot next to the Herman Miller lodge for anchoring and we stayed there overnight.
You’ll see the Marigold Lodge in the middle of the lake and we anchored just to the right of it.
Herman Miller bought the estate from Hope College and has refurbished it into a visitor center and hotel. The lodge is located on a 7+1⁄2-acre peninsula which projects into Lake Macatawa. There is a main house with dark wood and stucco facades. The property also includes a guest house, and gazebo. Inside the lodge, the first story contains a living room, two dining rooms, a library, and sun porch. The service wing contains a modern kitchen, and office, and an employee lounge. The second story has eight bedrooms, each with attached bathrooms.
Howie took Bella in the “tinkle taxi” to a park and I went swimming off of the back of the boat. There were so many wakes from boats that I didn’t last long and got back on the boat. It was an enjoyable evening as most everyone was done boating by 6 p.m.
Always good to have an uneventful anchorage and we headed out early the next morning for South Haven, MI.
On the way out of the lake, we saw this house. It looks more like a hotel.
