THE DOCK MASTER SAID “LEAVE.” MOTHER NATURE SAID “I GOT YOU.”

August 31-September 1, 2026

Shortest run we have had in almost six months-7 miles to the south of Leland is a paradise called, “Good Harbor Bay.” Since we had to leave the Leland marina, this was a pretty sweet back-up. We were actually thrilled to be kicked out as this was an absolutely amazing spot.

Doesn’t this look like you are in the Caribbean Islands?

Once we had set the anchor and felt comfortable that the boat was secure, we got the tender out and headed to the beach. This is about as close to paradise as you can get-crystal clear water that was cool, but refreshing. A long stretch of beach with very few folks as it was a remote area. Beautiful day that was warm, but not terribly hot. Just had a great time throwing the ball for Bella (this is her Utopia).

Bella having an AMAZING day with ball throwing and running up and down the beach.

A day that definitely felt like we were on vacation.

We also chatted with some people looking for Petoskey stones which is a fossilized coral and Michigan’s official state stone. Howie was looking for the stone for quite awhile as I headed down the beach for a walk. When I got back and asked what he was doing, he said, “I am looking for the Michigan’s state stone.” He showed me a picture and after about five minutes of looking, asked, “is this one?” Darned if it wasn’t. Beginner’s luck.

This is the one we found.

This is what they look like wet.

The only downside of our anchorage was that there was no wind and the flies decided that the boat was their haven. When you anchor, air-conditioning is not used or if you do turn it on, it is only sparingly, and for a short while. We run the generator, but for only about 30 minutes. So, the patio doors and windows are always open. Anyway, the electric fly zapper and manual fly swatter were in full use.

Still, an amazing spot that we will cherish.

Headed out early the next morning with a beautiful sunrise and amazing scenery as we looked forward to driving by Sleeping Bear Dunes on our way to Frankfort, MI.
