FRYING PAN ISLAND: WHERE THE WALLEYE CHECK IN BUT DON’T CHECK OUT
August 9-10, 2026
Frying Pan island is about 29 nautical miles from the Cedar Springs dock.
It was a beautiful drive up to the island with clear skies, good seas and beautiful granite rocks.
It isn’t every day when a plane drives by you when you are captaining a boat.
Okay, now for the “naked story.” Howie was driving the boat and I was standing close by looking out at the water. He yells, “Oh my god, that guy is naked!” Again, how can I believe him when he was messing with me the night before?!? He says again, “Seriously, that guy is really naked.” I look over at a huge granite island with a house on it. In the back of the house is a guy putting laundry out to dry. I look through the binoculars and yep, that guy really is naked. He had his back to me, but I saw the “tushy.” Howie grabbed the binoculars and by then he had turned around for more laundry. He saw the “full Monty.” Not sure the guy noticed us, but why not go naked when you live on a secluded rock?
Once docked at Henry’s Fish Restaurant, we ate a great walleye lunch. We also had dinner on the patio. Very good food, nice setting. Threw the ball for Bella off a granite rock near the marina. I wanted to go on a walk, but after talking with the owner who said he had caught a rattlesnake nearby just that morning, I decided against it.
