ERIE CANAL FINISHED?!? NOPE, NOT YET

June 22-25, 2026

Weirdly when you get to Oneida lake you would think that you are through the Erie Canal locks, but nope, you have one more “Erie Canal” lock (Lock 23) and then 7 locks on the Oswego Canal.

We stayed in Sylvan Beach for three nights not because we wanted to, but we were at the mercy of weather, so you hang tight. I don’t remember going out to any restaurants here, but Howie did frequent the Sylvan Beach Pancake House which served up huge pancakes.

Bella and I had a great walk down to Verona Beach State Park where she was able to get in beach swimming on a sandy beach.

Fun time at Verona State Park.

The third night at the Sylvan Beach wall, there were over 20 boats docked. The wall itself is 1,000 feet long, but that night it was packed. Many were looper boats, but a few locals as well. We had a nice get together and met a number of great folks, one of the great positives of this trip.

The Sylvan Beach free dock was absolutely packed our last night there. A number of boats left early the next morning, but dang, that was one busy dock for an evening.
