CAMPFIRE BABY!

July 23-24, 2026

We went through the Kirkfield lift lock today. This is the same type of “bathtub” lock as the Peterborough. The difference was we were going down in this one (the first 35 locks we were going up).

I have mentioned the “business” of other boats in the locks, though as we got farther into the locks, it thinned out a bit. By lock 41 of 45 locks, we were with only a few boats. Had a great walk along the canal before dinner.

Bella playing her game of hiding the ball in the rocks until she can’t reach it anymore than whining for us to rescue the ball.

At lock 41 (Gamebridge) we spent another peaceful evening with another boat that was across the lock wall from us. There was a campfire set up near the lock, so we gathered some kindling and larger pieces and had a campfire. A bit warm for it, but actually fun. Bella chewed on sticks and wandered around. Another great part of having the place to yourself, the dog can roam free.

Just at sunset over the lock 41 gate.

We hadn’t gone through lock 41 yet so we had to wait until they opened at 9 a.m. This particular lock is close to Lake Simcoe, so we planned to head out onto the lake and go north to the Port of Orillia. We knew there were a number of other looper boats at the port so were looking forward to a “docktail” event.
