SPRING US OFF SCOTTY!
May 4-5, 2026
Coinjock Marina was basically built for Loopers. Coming up from Alligator River and crossing the Abermarle Sound, it is in a prime location for a one night stay. It is isolated, but has a nice restaurant and a long wall that fills up quickly. The dock master is adept at putting each boat close to the one in front so he can maximize his space. The long wall was packed the night we stayed at Coinjock. The next morning, we were scratching our heads as to how we were going to get out of there. After conferring with the dock master, he said, “oh, I’ll just spring you off." The idea is he holds onto one of our spring lines as we move our bow away from the other boat, which was basically two feet in front of us. Thankfully Glenn on the boat “BaBoo” behind left and we could just back up. I don’t think I ever want to experience the spring line move.
I didn’t take any pictures in Coinjock, but we did hit our first lock on our way to Hampton, VA. You can see on the distance sign to the right that Miami, FL is 1064 miles away which is just a little more than what we have traveled from Fort Lauderdale (beginning March 16). Pretty good for less than two months on the ICW!!
