IS IT PENETANG OR PENETANGUISHENE?

July 31-August 7, 2026

Penetanguishene AKA Penetang is a tender ride from the Hindson marina. Basically, if you want to go to a restaurant or get groceries, you are taking a tender ride. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and Jake (Volvo tech) was able to work on the boat for about two hours before quitting for the weekend, which was a three-day holiday (Civic Day) which meant Jake wasn’t coming back until Tuesday morning. Again, oh joy.

This marina is not close to ANYTHING other than a great hiking trail. We had to drive the tender over to a public marina and walk into town up a pretty good hill to find any food. There was no entertainment to speak of other than Discovery Harbour.

Amazing hiking trail in a beautiful forest. The trail went on for miles.

Love you Howie!

Howard found an old fishing license in his tackle box. We think this is the last time he went fishing-notice the date of June 1994.

It got to be a bit boring over the course of a week, but you make do by hiking, taking the tender over to the beach (very muddy bottom-yuck), drinking cocktails, making meals, doing laundry, cleaning, and working on the blog.

When Jake got back on Tuesday, he started isolating various likely problem areas and by late that afternoon had figured out that the transmission oil pressure sensor was the problem. This is a known issue on the Fountain Pajot’s, so to “hedge our bets,” we replaced both of them. The parts came in late morning on Thursday and Jake installed them and we went out on a test run on Friday morning. The transmission warning went away-woohoo! We did a pump out and got fuel and were on our way. Such a relief to have the boat back working again.

We used the tender a lot in Penetang going back and forth to town and the beach. Howie had to bring it in backwards to put it on the swim platform.
