Sept. 30-Oct. 1, 2026
I really like anchoring out now that we have figured out that the “tinkle taxi” is a way to get Bella off the boat for her daily constitutions. We anchored out near Havana, Illinois with two other boats. It was an easy tender ride to Havana, so once we felt the anchor had set and we had buttoned up the boat, we got the tender off the swim platform and headed into town. It is always nice to walk around after captaining the boat.
Havana, IL is a small town on the Illinois river. There wasn’t a grocery store, but a Dollar General will do in a pinch. I walked Bella and Howie headed to the store. I kind of knew that was probably a mistake, especially since it was late afternoon and hunger was setting in. After about 45 minutes (seriously, how long can you shop in Dollar General?), I was getting concerned. I started heading up to see where he was when I saw Howie coming down the street with 6 heavy bags of groceries. Oh boy. Well, when we got back to the boat and had unloaded the potato chips, pretzels, mac-n-cheese, bacon and other misc. bad decisions, I knew that was the LAST time he went to the store by himself. Yeesh.
It was a peaceful evening on anchor. Always is as we are surrounded by nature, quiet and the setting sun.
The next morning we headed to Grafton Harbor marina and back to a bit of madness as they had put us on their fuel dock.
