THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD

August 12-13, 2026

Stairs & Maskinonge Island, Ontario is just about 28 nautical miles from Big Sound marina. We went through large water that was calm and saw an eagle sitting high up in a tree looking out on it’s domain.

Could you imagine living on a rock in this remote area???

Once in the inlet, we looked for an area with about 10 feet of water and dropped anchor. Bella and I got in the water to swim over to the closest island as it wasn’t that far away. We saw a boat go by us and then saw it turn around and head back to where we were. I asked them where they were heading and they said “next to you.” Oh joy. About an hour later we had another looper boat next to the first one.

Well, you just adjust and enjoy the scenery.

We took a tender ride through the “Hole-in-the-Wall” which contain towering vertical granite walls 25 to 35 feet high.

It really was a wonderful anchorage, very quiet and at night the stars were amazing. So clear and bright with the milky way very prevalent. These are the days that you truly appreciate.
